Schoke Jewish Family Services is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) volunteer to support language accessibility within our Food Pantry and across departments.

Primary Responsibilities (During Pantry Shifts)

Greet and assist Spanish-speaking community members

Provide verbal translation support during pantry interactions as needed

Support staff in maintaining a welcoming environment

Additional Responsibilities (When Translation Support Is Not Needed)

Translate documents, forms, and informational materials into Spanish

Assist departments in making written communication more accessible

Review translated materials for clarity and tone

Ideal Qualities

Fluent in Spanish and English (written and verbal)

Strong attention to detail

Professional and respectful communication style

Comfortable working independently on assigned translation tasks

The Weekly Pantry Organizer helps ensure our food pantry is welcoming, dignified, and easy to navigate for clients and staff. This role focuses on organization, restocking, and maintaining a calm, respectful space that supports food access with care.

Responsibilities

Organize pantry shelves by category and expiration date Rotate stock (first in, first out).   Check for expired or damaged items and flag for staff.Restock shelves from back stock as needed.Help maintain a clean, orderly, and client-ready space Communicate any supply needs or concerns to pantry staff.   Lift, carry, and move boxes and pantry items as part of restocking and organization tasks

This volunteer plays a vital role in our food stability work by helping transport and deliver donated kosher meals each week. Volunteers will pick up meals from Restaurant 613, bring them to the Schoke JFS Stamford office, and deliver them directly to community members who rely on this support. Because needs shift week to week, delivery locations may change. making this role ideal for someone who is flexible, dependable, and enjoys meaningful one-on-one service. 

Responsibilities

Pick up donated kosher meals from Restaurant 613 Transport meals safely to the Schoke JFS Stamford office Deliver meals to individuals in the community following a weekly delivery list Adapt to changing delivery routes, as recipients may vary week to week Handle meals with care, dignity, and respect Communicate any delivery concerns or issues to staff Use your own vehicle for deliveries, Pick up at 613, - 613 Hope Street, Stamford, CT 06907

For many recipients, these meals are more than food—they represent consistency, care, and connection. Volunteers in this role provide nourishment while helping reduce isolation and support community members with dignity and respect.

The Weekly Hirsch Kosher Meal Packing Volunteer supports our food stability work by helping prepare and pack kosher meals for distribution to individuals and families in our community. This role ensures meals are packed accurately, respectfully, and with care, supporting dignity and consistency for those receiving them.

Responsibilities

Pack weekly Hirsch Kosher meals according to the provided guidelines Ensure correct portions and items are included in each meal package Follow food safety, cleanliness, and kosher handling standards Label and organize packed meals for distribution or pickup Maintain a clean and orderly workspace during and after packing Lift, carry, and move boxes and meal items as part of the packing process Communicate any supply needs or concerns to staff

Deliver shabbat meals to clients in our community.

Pickup is from 196 Greyrock Pl. Stamford, between 11:15am and 1:15pm.

Help pack and organize the kosher meals for our meal delivery programs. 

Join Schoke JFS and CBI as we operate the Schoke JFS Mobile Food Pantry.

Volunteers will come visit the Mobile Food Pantry on behalf of a homebound client. Help pack the bags of groceries per the client's needs and preferences and delivery to them at their home. Client delivery info will be given to volunteers on-site. Deliveries will be in surrounding towns including Bridgeport, Shelton, Trumbull, Monroe Stratford and Fairfield.

Volunteers will help set-up, organize, stock and distribute food to clients in the CBI parking lot. 

Volunteers will be given a short orientation on site to help clients choose their items, stock the shelves and assist with refrigerated and freezer items. This is an opportunity that requires a positive attitude, rolling with it and desire to help those who are experiencing food insecurity. It can be a slow and steady or a fast paced experience. 

Join Schoke JFS and CBE as we operate the Schoke JFS Mobile Food Pantry.

Volunteers will come visit the Mobile Food Pantry on behalf of a homebound client. Help pack the bags of groceries per the client's needs and preferences and delivery to them at their home. Client delivery info will be given to volunteers on-site. Deliveries will be in surrounding towns including Norwalk, Westport, Weston, Wilton.

This is an opportunity that requires a positive attitude, rolling with it and desire to help those who are experiencing food insecurity. It can be a slow and steady or a fast paced experience. 

Join Schoke JFS and Caroline's House as we operate the Schoke JFS Mobile Food Pantry.

Volunteers will help set-up, organize, stock and distribute food to clients outside Caroline's House , a women's educational services program. 

Volunteers will be given a short orientation on site to help clients choose their items, stock the shelves and assist with refrigerated and freezer items. This is an opportunity that requires a positive attitude, rolling with it and desire to help those who are experiencing food insecurity. It can be a slow and steady or a fast paced experience.

Volunteers will help set-up, organize, stock and distribute food to clients in the First County Bank parking lot. 

Volunteers will be given a short orientation on site to help clients choose their items, stock the shelves and assist with refrigerated and freezer items. This is an opportunity that requires a positive attitude, rolling with it and desire to help those who are experiencing food insecurity. It can be a slow and steady or a fast-paced experience. 

Join the Kosher Mobile Food Pantry once a month at Stern Village in Trumbull! Volunteers will work as a team to retrieve perishables, help keep service shelves stocked, and assist clients in packing their bags.

 

This opportunity may require some lifting. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and weather appropriate clothing. 

Meet our Kosher Mobile Food Pantry at Maritime Odyssey Preschool in Norwalk! Volunteers will help stock service shelves, get refrigerated items, and pack bags for clients.

 

Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and weather appropriate attire for all pantry related opportunities. 

These are prepared Shabbat meals for clients to enjoy. They are packaged with enough meals in each bag for the number of people in each household. Meals are delivered to 4-6 families in Stamford every Thursday.
